How to Tone Your Legs at Home

Keeping your legs in shape and nicely toned can be difficult if you can’t go to a gym for lack of time or money.

But if you’re determined to work out regularly and keep your body and legs fit there are many exercises you can do that do not require elaborate gym equipment. You can learn how to tone your legs at home and get a great workout without hitting the gym.

Toned legs are shapely and sexy.  They have a hint of muscle but are not bulky.  Toned legs and thighs are also lean without any excess fat.  If you know how to tone your legs they will look strong and lean without developing bulging muscles.

How to Tone Your Legs with Exercise

The only way to improve muscle tone is to exercise.  There are many exercise routines you can do at home to strengthen your leg muscles.  Some of the best exercises for the legs include squats, lunges, step-ups, calf raises, and leg raises.

Many of these leg exercises do not require extra equipment although you may want to incorporate dumbbells for a more challenging workout.  You don’t have to worry that your leg muscles will get bulky or misshapen.  Your legs will simply look lean and strong.

Squats

Squats are simple and you can do easily do them at home.  Do squats for at least 3 minutes once a day.  Hold a heavy object such as a dumbbell while you exercise.

Don’t do the exercise too fast, as this lessens its effectiveness.  Squats are great for toning your leg and thigh muscles as well as your buttocks.

Barbell Lunges

Lunges are effective if you want to tone your legs and thighs.  Do 2 or 3 sets with ten reps per set.  Be sure to keep your back foot in line and keep your hips straight.  Take your time and do the exercise properly.

Calf Raises

Stand with your feet about 5 inches apart.  Keep your hands at your sides.  Slowly rise on the balls of your feet, and then lower again.  Repeat 10 to 20 times.  Calf raises tone your legs and give your calves a nice hint of muscle that looks very sexy.

Walk

Walking is often overlooked as a way to tone your legs.  Many people do not even think of walking as exercise.  Your legs are carrying the entire weight of your body and you are adding muscle tone to your legs as you walk.  Try walking up stairs or an incline to work different sets of leg muscles.

Jump

Jumping will also help tone your legs and make them look sexy.  Start with your feet shoulder-width apart.  Bend your knees a little and jump as high as you can.  Lift your arms up as you jump.  Land in a squat position with your arms lowered.  Repeat 10 or 12 times.

Burn Off Fat

You need to burn off fat if you want to show off your toned muscles.  You can jog up stairs or do some intense cardio workout.  Sprints and hill climbs will help burn excess fat and they will tone your legs as well.
